The star motif in Rote weaving, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has a deep philosophical meaning and is rich in symbolism. One of the most well-known motifs is the Morning Star or Mawarani, which symbolizes direction and light in life. In the form of a triple star, this motif represents the family structure consisting of husband, wife and children, making it a symbol of togetherness and harmony in the family. Apart from that, the star motif is also believed to have a spiritual function as a ward off disaster, where the wearer is expected to receive protection and guidance from bad things. The colors used in this weaving are full of meaning: the basic color black symbolizes position or honor, red symbolizes courage, and white symbolizes purity. All these elements make Rote weaving not only a work of textile art, but also a reflection of the cultural, spiritual and social values of the Rote people.
